Donna Faye (Moberly) Justus

Funeral services for Donna Faye Justus, 91, of Portales, were held at 10:00 AM, Mon., Mar. 18, 2024 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Don Thomas officiating.  Burial was in Lawn Haven Cemetery in Clovis.

Donna Faye Justus was born Aug. 2, 1932 in Fields, NM to the home of Elsie Maye (Smith) and H. B. “Hiney” Moberly, and lost her fight with Alzheimer’s and dementia at her home in Portales on Mar. 13, 2024.  Donna attended school in Fields.  It was in the early 1940’s that she met Garland Justus.  They began dating in 1947, and were married on Nov. 6, 1948 in the Methodist parsonage in Portales.  They were devotedly in love throughout their life together.

They made their home for several years farming in the Fields community where all three of their children were born.  In 1957, they moved to Portales to make their home. Together they farmed and ranched and had a dairy.  It was a life of hard work, but together they built a great life.  Donna Faye worked along side her husband until the late 1960’s when she began working at the local J. C. Penney’s store.  In the early 1970’s she moved to the Roosevelt County Treasurers office where she continued for 25 years.

As their family grew with marriages and then as grandchildren were added, her life became even more full.  She loved each of them and particularly enjoyed preparing all of her best dishes for them when they were together.  She and Garland always raised a large garden, and Donna canned the produce and shared with neighbors and friends.  She was an excellent cook, and enjoyed baking.  In addition, she was an accomplished seamstress, and made many beautiful items.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.  For several years Donna was active in the Bethel Homemakers Club, and in conjunction with her club she often worked in the fair booth.  From 2010 until 2014 she was a member of the Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary.

Donna Faye is survived by two sons, Mike Justus and his wife, Judy of Clovis and Danny Justus and his companion, Priscilla Hromas of Portales; a daughter, Pam Hatley and her husband, Randie of Clovis; 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren and another expected in August.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jake Moberly, a sister, Dawn Hathorne and by the love of her life, Garland, who died Dec. 8, 2021 after more than 72 years of marriage.
