Joseph Henry Terry, known to virtually everyone as Joe, was born Jan. 27, 1971 in Portales, to the home of Linda Kay (Vernon) and Ramon Elias Terry, and died Mar. 22, 2024 in Lubbock, TX. Joe grew up in Portales, and graduated from Portales High School in 1989. He went on to attend Eastern New Mexico University for a short time. Through the years he had worked at various local businesses. For a time he was a stocker at IGA supermarket. Later he worked as a custodian for the university. Eventually he became a Department Head at Wal Mart over the paints and hardware section. In 2016, he became disabled and has been unable to work since that time. On July 1, 1995 in Portales, he was married to Sandy Hernandez.
Joe was a Star Wars fanatic. When his health permitted, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He was a wealth of information about history. As a result of his love of history, he enjoyed participating in Civil War enactments. Joe really like what is known as Cos Play, which is dressing in costumes to portray various characters. Tied to his love of all things old and history, he was fascinated by antique guns along with newer firearms as well. Life was a game for him. He loved board games and computer games. He was very good at entertaining children, and just seemed to become their age when he played with them. In short, he just simply enjoyed life.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy of Portales; his son, Bobby Terry of Portales; his step-mother, Joan Martinez Terry also of Portales; a brother, Manuel Terry of Portales; and a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Jack Campbell of Portales. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, and a sister, Vonda Gail Terry.
