Norman Bradley Nesser

Funeral services for Norman Nesser, 92, of Clovis, will be held at 2:00 PM, Thurs., April 18, 2024 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Stacy Conner officiating.  Burial will follow in the Gavilan Memorial Garden Cemetery in Ruidoso, NM at 2:00 PM, Fri., April 19, 2024 with Gary Hoadley, Brad Nesser, Deon Gallman, Brayden Gallman and Nick Johnson serving as pallbearers.

Norman Bradley Nesser was born May 10, 1931 in Elk City, OK to the home of Dorthea (Snyder) and Ernest Alfred Nesser and died early on the morning of April 16, 2024 in Farwell, TX.  Mr. Nesser grew up in Elk City, and on Mar. 30 1951 in their home town, he was married to his high school sweetheart, Gwen Massey.

On April 10, 1952 he was drafted into the U. S. Army, and during his tour of duty he served in Germany and Switzerland.  Upon his discharge in 1954, he returned to Elk City where he worked for the second cable television company in the country.  These were the early days of cable tv, and his duties included building transmitters and receivers, and transmission systems as well as installing cables on the poles to the customers.  In 1958, they relocated to Clayton, NM, where he continued to perform the same duties in that area.

In 1962, they moved to Portales to make their home.  Again Mr. Nesser worked for the cable company.  His next employment was with Perry Electric where he gained his Journeyman’s License, and established Nesser Electric in the mid 1960’s.  Approximately ten years later he was hired as the head electrician for Eastern New Mexico University.  When he retired in the mid 1990’s, he and his wife moved to Ruidoso where they lived until June of 2013.  At that time they moved to Clovis to be near their daughter and her family.

During the years they lived in Portales, they were members of the Calvary Baptist Church.  After moving to Ruidoso, they attended several different churches, but mainly the local Cowboy Church.  He enjoyed hunting for rocks to polish, as well as making silver and turquoise jewelry and doing wood carvings.  Also, among his accomplishments was building a cab-over camper, a cabin in Las Vegas, NM and house in Ruisodo, NM.

He and his wife were members of the Good Sams Club in Ruidoso, and enjoyed a number of outings with the group, as well traveling independently.  Norman was also a member of the Portales Antique Auto Club, and was very proud of his Classsic Whipet, but he never managed to get it restored exactly as he wanted.

He is survived by Gwen, his wife of 73 years of Farwell, TX; his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Catherine Nesser of Carlsbad, NM; his daughter and son-in-law, Dayna and Gary Hoadley of Clovis; four grandchildren, David and Jackie Kellerman of Las Cruces, NM, Desirae and Deon Gallman of Lazbuddie, TX, Brittany Taylor of Ruidoso, NM and SanTasha and Nick Johnson of Lubbock, TX; five great-grandchildren, Emma Gallman, Brayden Gallman, Ryker  Kellerman, Oliver Johnson and Cordelia Bee Johnson who is expected in June of this year; and a brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Verble Nesser of Hobart, OK.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents, a brother, Harold Nesser and great-grandson, Caiden Taylor.
