Jenny (Armijo) Chavez

Funeral services for Jenny Chavez, 74, of Portales, will be held at 2:00 PM, Sat., Mar. 16, 2019 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Darrell Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Jonathan Gallegos, Michael Chavez, Gabriel Villanueva, Joseph Montoya, Lucas Montoya and Anthony Chavez, Jr., serving as pallbearers.
Jenny Chavez was born Nov. 19, 1944 in Belen, NM to the home of Aulimia and Antonio Armijo and died at her home in Portales on Mar. 14, 2019. Mrs. Chavez grew up in Belen, NM and was married to Gabriel Chavez on Oct 23, 1961. They moved back and forth several times between Belen and Barstow, CA where her husband worked at various jobs. In 1980, the family moved to Portales to make their home. Jenny enjoyed making a comfortable home for her family and spending time with them. In later years, she particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. As a young woman she liked traveling, but in later years she mostly enjoyed watching game shows on television and drinking coffee.
She is survived by two sons, Anthony Chavez and his companion, Roberta Ramirez of Clovis and Steve and Betsy Chavez of Portales; two daughters, Mary Jane Chavez and Teresa Montoya both of Portales; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rose Mary Rivera of Belen, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Luis, Jerry, Eloy and Rudy Armijo, a son, Gabriel Chavez, Jr. and a daughter, Betty Ann Gallegos and by her beloved husband, Gabriel, who died Nov. 25, 2012.
