Rbert "Bob" Miller Obituary

Robert "Bob" Eugene Miller, age 67, of Nacogdoches, TX went to be with the Lord on October 30th, 2019 after facing a recent diagnosis of cancer.

Robert “Bob” Eugene Miller was born to Harry and Tillie Miller at Miller Hospital in Portales, New Mexico on June 23, 1952. He graduated from high school at Portales High, where he was an outstanding student and played varsity basketball. He went to college at Wichita State University, graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice. At age 26, Bob was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He underwent radiation that put him in remission and lived a happy, healthy life for the next 43 years until those treatments he took in 1978, caused Mesothelioma. Bob followed his family when they moved to Nacogdoches in 1978. While in Wichita, Bob met the love of his life, Ardan.  Her devotion to Bob allowed her to follow Bob to Nacogdoches and the two were married in June 1980. Ardan was the love of Bob’s life and together they enjoyed life, especially their travels to New Mexico and Colorado. Bob was an accomplished photographer, and also enjoyed sailing and listening to old rhythm and blues. He had many friends, many of whom he enjoyed visiting about sports, but especially basketball with his friend from college, Al Spector, on a daily basis. He also stayed in contact with his longtime friend Mike Slinker. When he wasn't meeting with his Saturday morning breakfast group, you could find him reading his Bible while drinking his tea with his trusty cat, Tsar, in his lap! He knew the Bible, and tried to be faithful every day. Bob was a baptized Christian and loved the Lord with all his heart. His church home was the North Street Church of Christ. He had a heart for supporting the Hispanic Church congregation at North Street, as well as the Children’s Home in Portales, New Mexico. Bob was known as the “Brick Man of East Texas” after working for 35 years with builders, homeowners and brick layers before his retirement in 2017. Bob was the president of the Oakview Condo Homeowners Association. He was always a kind and helpful landlord who took care of his residents. Bob was a mentor in the Kids Hope program for students at Raguet Elementary.

Bob faced the sudden diagnosis of cancer bravely! He was comforted and visited by many friends the last few days of life. His family will surely miss him but are happy he is at peace with the Lord!

He wanted his family and friends to know how much he appreciated their efforts to keep him healthy, upbeat and comfortable. He wanted to share his three favorite verses: Proverbs 3: 5-7, Micah 6:8, and Psalm 1. Bob will have “time to Infinity” to overlook the mountains in Ruidoso, New Mexico where he will rest after a private family celebration.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Tillie Miller. He is survived by his wife, Ardan; brother, Tom Miller and wife Patty; of Nacogdoches; brother Gary Miller and wife Dorota of Tyler; Niece, Claire Bivins and Tatom and son Sutton of Nacogdoches; Nieces, Sophie and Isabella of Tyler; Niece, Ember Ashby Minarelli and Leandro of Round Rock; Nephew, Will Ashby and Anna of Nacogdoches; nephew, Mark Vaughn and wife, Sue of Colwich, Kansas; niece, Jennifer Harp of Wichita, Kansas; nephew, Kevin Vaughn and wife, Misti of Wichita, Kansas; and niece, Kathleen Vaughn of Andale, Kansas; several great nieces and nephews;  brother-in-law, Tommy Wanko of Wichita, Kansas; and sister-in-law, Michelle Vaughn and husband, Benny of Andale, Kansas.

Donations in Bob’s memory can be made to the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home, 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130.
