Abel Loya Obituary

Funeral services for Abel Loya Loya, 70, of Portales, will be held at 1:00 PM, Sat., June 21, 2025 at Templo La Hermosa, at 1301 N. Main Ave, in Portales with Pastor Raul Ornelas and Pastor Antonio Arse officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Abel F. Loya, Israel Loya, Miguel Loya, Angel Loya, Adrian Short, Brandon Rose, Isabel Loya and Abel Martin Loya serving as pallbearers.  Mr. Loya's visitation will be at the church building.

Abel Loya was born Oct. 23, 1954 in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico to the home of Abel and Aduwijes Loya.  After his mother's passing, he was blessed with a second mother, Anjelita, who helped in his upbringing.  Mr. Loya moved to the Portales area in the early 1970's where he met the love of his life, Rosa Mendoza.  They were married on Oct. 27, 1978, and made their home in Dora and then later in Portales.

In the late 1970's, Mr. Loya solidified his relationship with the Lord, and began to pursue his passion of preaching.  He and his wife were very involved with several churches over the years.  He was currently attending Iglesia del Dios.  They both enjoyed every aspect of praising the Lord and spreading the gospel.  Mr. Loya served as a minister for more than 40 years.  He was a true example of a follower of Christ.  Mr. Loya loved and was respected by everyone that had the opportunity to know him.  He was generous to a fault, and would often give someone his very last dollar to help them.  Mr. Loya supported his family by working on farms and ranches as well as dairies in the area.

He will be greatly missed here on earth.  However, we know that he is celebrating i the presence of the Lord and must have been so overjoyed to be re-united with his loving wife, Rosa.

He is survived by three sons, Abel and Melissa Loya of Portales, Israel Loya of Honolulu, HI and Miguel Loya and his companion, Missy of Portales; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Susana and Josh Short of Portales, Marisol and Brandon Rose of Andrews, TX and Raquel and Luis Lugo of Portales; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents as well as by his step-mother, and his beloved wife, Rosa, who died Mar. 14, 2018.
