Bertoldo Sepulveda-Barraza

Funeral services and viewing for Bertoldo Sepulveda, 72, of Portales, New Mexico, will begin at 1:30 PM for the visitation with the funeral at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Abnner Ortiz officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Jose Rios, David Sepulveda, Ivan Sepulveda, Ramon Sepulveda, Michael Arellanes, and Jesus Lopez serving as pallbearers.

Bertoldo Sepulveda was born on October 22, 1953, in Tepehuanes, Durango, Mexico, to Maria Dolores Barraza and Miguel Sepulveda, and passed away on January 26, 2026, in Portales, New Mexico.

He grew up in Mexico and worked on the farm alongside his family since the age of eight, helping to raise his siblings after his mother passed away. He worked in agriculture, construction, and the oilfields. He retired in 2015.

Bertoldo met the love of his life, Maira Rios, in 2010, and they fell instantly in love. He got married on March 31, 2015, in Lovington, New Mexico. They have been inseparable since the day they met.  

He watched all his children as they were being born and drove them all home in his GMC chrome truck. He would take his children to school and pick them up.

Bertoldo was very active working in his garden, and he enjoyed making menudo, gorditas, and buñuelos, especially during the holidays. He loved singing and dancing. He made sure that his family was always well taken care of. He had a great sense of humor and always made people laugh.

Throughout his life, he was a very loving, kind, and respectful son, brother, uncle, husband, father, and friend, and he will be greatly missed.

Bertoldo was preceded in death by his parents, Maria Dolores Barraza and Miguel Sepulveda, a sister, Reina Sepulveda, a niece, Aurora Bolivar, and a cousin, Leandro Payan.

Survivors include his wife, Maira Rios; his sons, Jose Rios, David Sepulveda, Ivan Sepulveda and Jairo Sepulveda; a daughter, Reyna Sepulveda; brothers, Ramon Sepulveda, Humberto Sepulveda and Simon Sepulveda; sisters, Nicanor Sepulveda, Guadalupe Arellanes and Soccorro Sepulveda; his sister-in-law, Cuca Sepulveda; his brothers-in-law, Gabriel Rodriguez, Jesus Lopez, Ruben Rios, Jorge Rios and Adrian Rios; his mother-in-law, Maria J. Rios; nephews, Jeremiah Urias, Carlos Payan, Martin Payan, Francisco Payan, David Payan, Israel Payan, Eduardo Payan, Teofilo Barraza Martinez, Antonio Bolivar, Alfredo Bolivar, Manuel Sepulveda, Michael Arellanes, Miguel Vega, Jose Miguel Vega, Jesus Ray Lopez, Abel Lopez, Matthew Lopez, Juan Cano, Jose Heriberto Cano, Jose Ramon Acuña, Hector Acuña, Diego Ivan Acuña, and Luis Calderon Sepulveda; nieces, Araceli Cano, Maria Luisa Sepulveda, Elvira Sepulveda, Maria Del Carmen Bolivar Sepulveda, Dolores Bolivar Sepulveda, Guadalupe Bolivar Sepulveda, Janeth Bolivar Sepulveda, Reyna Nuñez, Julia Herrera, Maria Renteria, Aracely Martinez, Angela Meza, Marisela Nuñez, Luz Vega, Abigail Vega, Berenece Vega, Abigail Lopez, Angeles Acuña, Lourdes Acuña, Arely Acuña, Magaly Acuña, and Anna Payan; cousins, Patricio Sepulveda, Edmundo Sepulveda, Kuko Sepulveda, Teresa Sepulveda, Mary Sepulveda, Maria Payan, and Marina Payan, and his lifelong friend, Crispin Nuñez.
