Betty C. (Chavez) Flores

The Rosary for Betty C. Flores, 87, of Portales will be held at 9:30 AM, Fri., July 9, 2021 at St. Helen Catholic Church, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection, celebrated by Fr. Francisco Carbajal.  Burial of her cremains will follow in the Portales Cemetery.  Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Pena, Julie Perez, Amber Gibson and Charity Gibson.

Betty C. Flores was born May 20, 1934 in Duran, NM to the home of Isabel (Madril) and Demetrio Chavez, and died at her home near Portales on the morning  of June 27, 2021.  On Feb. 14, 1953 in Duran, NM she was married to Ramon Flores.  They soon moved to Portales to make their home.  Mrs. Flores loved her yard and flower gardening, and was very particular about every detail, including how the grass was mowed.  She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Flores of Portales; four grandchildren, Robert Pena of Midland, TX, Julie Perez of Savannah, GA, and Amber Gibson and Charity Gibson both of Portales; six brothers, Trinidad Chavez and "Chano" Chavez and "Trinki" Chavez of Alamogordo, NM, Jimmy Chavez of Ruidoso, NM, Raul Chavez of Duran, NM, and Demetrio Chavez, Jr. of Peralta, NM; and four sisters, Carol Vigil of Portales, Viola Saiz of Clovis, NM, Santana Lucero of Ft. Sumner, NM and Tomasita Montoya of Roswell, NM.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Flores on Dec. 4, 1984, two brothers, Francisco Chavez and Herman Chavez, and her son, Rick Flores who died in Nov. 2008.
