Carsonial "Spud" Newberry Obituary

A graveside service for C. D. "Spud" Newberry, 85, will be held at 9:30 A.M., on Saturday, January 21, 2023, in the Causey Cemetery with Rev. Rick Wilcher officiating.  Pallbearers will be James Newberry, Heath Williams, Josh Newberry, Dee Newberry, Cooper Sparks and Tyson Briscoe. Honorary pallbearers will be Mack Kizer and Gene Newberry.

Carsonial  Dean (Spud) Newberry, Sr., 85, a longtime resident of Clovis, passed away on January 20, 2023. He was born on December 31, 1937 in Lingo, NM to the parents of Ralph and Ruby (Kizer) Newberry.

Spud attended school in Lingo until they consolidated with Causey. He graduated from Causey High School in 1955. He married Laura Beth Cook on November 19, 1955 at Missionary Baptist Church in Morton, TX. The couple made their home in Clovis where  Spud went to work for McDaniel’s Floor Covering. He worked for McDaniel’s until January 1995.

Spud and Laura Beth loved to camp and made many life long friends. Their favorite camping spot was in Cimarron Canyon. He loved fishing in the rivers and teaching his kids and grandkids how to fish.

Spud is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ruby Newberry.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Laura Beth, his son Corky (Wanda) Newberry of Elida, son Jack (Julie) Newberry of Huntsville, TX, and daughter Laura Ann (Brad) Davis of Bandera, TX. He also is survived by eight grandchildren, James (Sara) Newberry of Lubbock, Mary Beth (Heath) Williams of Portales, Jackson D. (Courtney) Newberry of Houston, Josh (Yaya) Newberry of Cypress, TX, Shelby (Tyson) Briscoe of Lubbock, Kolby (Charles) Barton of Medina, TX, Cooper Sparks of Bandera, TX and Rachel Davis of Austin, TX. He was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren: Hannah Newberry, Jay Newberry, Evie Williams, Atticus Williams, Jack Newberry, Mason Newberry, Jonathan Newberry, Corbin Briscoe, Carson Briscoe, Blakely Barton, Beckym Barton, and Bristol Barton. He also has a brother Gene (Janie) Newberry of Monahans, TX and a nephew and nieces.
