Cindy (Salas) Romero

Funeral services for Cynthia Romero, 68, of Portales will be held at 12 noon, on Tues., Mar. 3, 2026, at the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ with Rick Kenyon officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Corey Gonzales, Archie Romero, III, Ernie Salas, Noah Lucero, Anthony Pierce, Christian Baca, Ethan Gonzales, Taylor Boone, Raul Gonzalez, Darin Bonem, Jose Obregon and Ray Valencia serving as pallbearers.

Cynthia Romero was born Sept. 25, 1957, in Portales, to the home of Inez (Gutierrez) and Samuel Chavez Salas, and passed from this life on Tues., Feb. 24, 2026, in Amarillo, TX.  On Dec. 8, 1990, in Portales, she was married to Archie Romero, Jr.  Mrs. Romero was a busy and devoted wife and mother.  She worked hard and accomplished much.  In addition to rearing her children, she also kept house for others.  She loved to go camping and fishing.  On occasion she enjoyed riding a motorcycle with her husband, along with her sister Josie and brother-in-law, Paul Encinias.  Mrs. Romero was an excellent cook and also liked to work in her yard.  She also enjoyed working puzzles and going dancing. All of these things she greatly enjoyed, but not as much as spending time with her 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.  She was looking forward to the birth of 4 more great-grandchildren in the near future.

She is survived by Archie, her husband of 35 years; four sons, Ernie Paul Salas of Amarillo, TX, Corey Gonzales of Amarillo, Archie Romero, III of Portales and Fabian Romero also of Portales; three daughters, Shelly Gonzales of Amarillo, TX, Toni Gonzales of Hereford, TX and Carrie Gonzales of Amarillo, TX; 15  grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and the 4 more expected in the near future;  a brother, Lucio Salas of Roswell, NM; and two sisters, Emilia Salas and Josie Encinias both of Portales.  She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Frank, Adolfo, Tommy, Mike and Keim Salas and two sisters, Connie Romero and Cathy Grijalva.
