Clarence Massey Obituary

Funeral services for Clarence Massey, 82, of Tatum, NM will be at 10:00 AM, Sat., Oct. 16, 2021 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Merle Roehr officiating.  Burial will follow in the Causey Cemetery with Stoney Martin, Cody Bonds, Zeth Massey, Justin Flowers, Brady Stroup and Kenneth Cox will serve as pallbearers.  His great-grandchildren, Garret Flowers, Addison Cardenas, Landyn Cogburn, Layiton Massey, Raidyn Massey, Suttyn Massey, Breckon Massey, Addyson Martin, Eliza Bonds, Cayden Martin and Elsie Bonds will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Clarence David Massey was born Sept. 5, 1939, in Richland, NM to the home of Lillie Bell (Meil) and David Lee Massey, and died Sept. 25, 2021 in Denver City, TX.  Mr. Massey attended school at the Rogers School until it was consolidated with Dora.  He graduated from Dora High School in 1958.  Clarence played basketball, baseball and ran track while he was in school.  On Mar. 29, 1958, in Dora, he was married to Norma Lou Wilmoth.  For about four years after they were married, he drove a milk truck to Lubbock on a daily basis.  Later he was hired to work  with the National Forrest Service, and the family moved to Capitan for a year.  In 1966, they moved to Tatum, where he ranched and farmed until his death.

Mr. Massey was a devoted family man, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Each year he made it point to attend the Massey family reunion in Dora, and the Meil family reunion in Lubbock.

He is survived by Norma, his wife of more than 63 years of their home in Tatum; a son, Russ Massey of Booneville, AR; a daughter and son-in-law, Selene and Gerald Martin of Tatum; five grandchildren, Stoney (Tina) Martin, Cody (Michelle) Bonds, Zeth (Shawnee) Massey, Kenda (Justin) Flowers and Amber (Alex) Cardenas; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lee Massey of Levelland, TX and Gene Massey of Portales; and a sister, Joyce Walton of Amarillo, TX.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents and great-grandchild.
