Clyde Rayburn Powell was born April 8, 1940, in Clovis, to the home of Reba (Martin) and Clyde A. Powell, and died in Lubbock, TX on the evening of Dec. 23, 2020.  Clyde grew up in House, NM on the family ranch and farm.  He was a 1958 graduate of House High School, and came to ENMU where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Chemistry.  On Oct. 21, 1960 in House, he was married to Glenda Galloway.  Following his graduation from ENMU, he worked for a brief time in Denver, CO for the Campbell Soup Company.  He returned to Portales to earn a Master's Degree, and had considered getting an Ed Specialist Degree, but Eastern announced that they were going to build the KENW Public Television station.  Clyde quickly became involved in that project, and eventually became the Director for Instructional Television.  In addition, for the past 48 years he has operated Sport Lab engraving countless awards and trophies.

Clyde was an accomplished vocalist and actor.  Through the years, he had performed in numerous productions at both the university and in the community.  In addition, Clyde served faithfully at University Baptist Church for many years, and more recently at First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Deacon body.  He has also sung at numerous weddings and funerals.  Clyde was a devoted husband, father and a doting grandfather.

He is survived by Glenda, his wife of over 60 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Curt and Joclyn Powell of Tulsa, OK; two daughters and a son-in-law, Crista Carnes of Highlands Ranch, CO and Kayla and Todd Leopold of Rocklin, CA; ten grandchildren, Alexander, Cassandra, Clayton, Elijah and Isaac Powell, Stefani (Ethan) Matott, Carson and Keaton Carnes and Avery and Channing Leopold; one great-grandson, Ezekiel Matott; and his sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Don Criss.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
