Clydene Cribbs Obituary

Garveside services for Clydene Cribbs, 85 of Fort Worth, TX will be held at 3:00 PM, Sat., April 24, 2021 in the Portales Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Boydston officiating.  All of Clydene's family will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Oma Clydene Cribbs, known to virtually everyone as Clydene, was born Jan. 6, 1935 in the Rogers community in southern Roosevelt County, to the home of Anna Fred (Ragland) and Clyde Blount Vardeman, and died April 8, 2021 in Fort Worth, TX, where she had lived since shortly after the death of her husband in 2012.  Clydene was a 1953 graduate of Portales High School.  Shortly after graduation, on June 14, 1953, she was married to Abner "Wayne" Cribbs.  In 1965, Clydene became the Librarian for L. L. Brown Elementary School, and remained in that position until 1973.  At that time, she and her husband joined her father-in-law in the operation of Cribbs Western Wear in Clovis.  In 1974, after the death of her father-in-law, they moved to Clovis, and continued to operate the store on Main Street until 1988, when they relocated to North Plains Mall.  In 1995, when they no longer had the store, she went to work  at Zales Jewelers, and later worked at Gordon Jewelry in the mall.  Clydene retired in 2010 at the age of 75.

Clydene always enjoyed watching her brothers and husband play baseball, and attended every school function that her daughter, Karen, ever had.  Then after her grandchildren came along, she taught them to drive!  Clydene was a devout Christian, and loved Jesus and her family and friends with all of her heart.  She was a faithful member of the Parkland Baptist Church in Clovis.  In 2012, after the death of her husband, Clydene moved to Fort Worth, where her daughter could oversee her care.  Since moving there, Clydene was a member of the Met Church, where she not only attended, but also participated in various church activities including crocheting hats for infants in local hospitals.  Clydene enjoyed reading her Bible, crocheting for family and friends and bird watching.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Larry Grube of Fort Worth, TX; three grandchildren, Christopher Caraway (Charli Shaw), Treyci (Jamie) Miller, and Treyla (James) Elliott; twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Phyllis Vardeman of Portales and Dwayne "Shorty" and Karen Vardeman of Princeton, TX; her former son-in-law and his wife, H. A. "Trey" and Kim Caraway of Lewisville, TX; and a sister-in-law, Gay Meyer of Santa Rosa, CA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Ernie Meyer and James and Janie Bailey, a grandson, Ryan Korn, and by her beloved husband, Wayne, who died Aug. 21, 2012 after more than 59 years of marriage.
