Deborah "Jene" (McDowell) Evans

Graveside services for Deborah Jene Evans, 81, of Kenna will be held at 10:30 AM, Sat. April 18, 2026 in the Kenna Cemetery with Matt Olson officiating.  Chad Davis will lead congregational singing.  Jimmy Dale Ward, Jesse Ward, Pat Boone, Jeff Bilberry, Payton Terry and Kendall Terry will serve as pallbearers.  Those desiring to make memorial contributions may send them to either the Kenna Community Church or the Kenna Cemetery Fund.

Deborah Evans, known to virtually everyone as Jene was born Feb. 18, 1945 in Clovis to the home of Thelma Coy (Nolan) and Abner McDowell, and passed from this life on the evening of April 9, 2026 in Clovis, NM.  She was a 1963 graduate of Elida High School.  Following graduation she attended Eastern New Mexico University.  It was while she was helping her father in the operation of the Kenna Gas Station that she became acquainted with O. L. Plymell, an oil man who was working in the area.  They soon married, and for several years lived in Sonora and Midland, TX.  After Mr. Plymell died, she later married Bob Evans on Aug. 4, 1984.  They made their home in Albuquerque until the late 1980's when they returned to Kenna to help care for her parents.

Jene was a member of the Kenna Community Church, and was active in Kenna Ladies' Aide.  In addition, for many years, Jene oversaw the records for the Kenna Cemetery.  Jene was a very outgoing person that virtually never met a stranger.  She was a loving and attentive neighbor and friend.

She is survived by a step-daughter, Debbie Plymell of Mldlothian, TX; two step-sons, Ricky Plymell of Odessa, TX and Jerry Plymell of Midlothian, TX; several cousins including, Jimmy Dale and Patsy Ward of Elida, Julie and James McLain of Springlake, TX, Crosby and Brenda McDowell of Scottsdale, AZ, Bruce and Celia McDowell of Tucson, AZ, Jim and Valerie McDowell of Rochester Hills, MI, Darlene and Tommy Lee of Austin, TX, Sam and Melissa Southard of Kenna, Tim Southard of Elida, Kate Southard of Albuquerque and Jo Ann Reisner of Dallas, TX.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a cousin, Joe McDowell, Mr. Plymell, and her husband, Bob Evans who died April 12, 2005.
