Diego L Lucero

Funeral services for Diego Lucero, Sr., 75, of Portales, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at the Portales Church of God with Michael Gilcrest and Don Hay officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Nathaniel Lucero, David Lucero, Joel Lucero, Ian Lozano, Diego Lucero, III, Iziquiel Lozano, Reyes Calbert and Jaelah Lucero serving as pallbearers. 

Diego Lucero was born on April 11, 1947, in Pueta De Luna, New Mexico to the home of Otila (Salazar) and Jose Inez Lucero and died on Saturday, March 4, 2023, in Portales.    

Diego grew up around Santa Rosa, New Mexico.  He married Sylvia Marie Cox on February 1, 1967, in Santa Rosa.  Diego worked for the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department and later in Santa Rosa, Tatum, Roosevelt County and the Portales Police Department.  He also worked at the Juvenile Detention Center and taught Hunter Safety Courses.  He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing with his family, especially his grandkids.

Diego is survived by his wife, Sylvia Lucero; his children, Diego Lucero, Jr., Douglas Lucero and wife Sandy and Doryan Lozano; his brothers, Robert Lucero and wife Angie, Mike Lucero and wife Lori and Abran Lucero; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and nine brothers.
