Dorothy G. (Garcia) Montoya

The Rosary for Dorothy Montoya, 75, of Portales will be recited at 1:00 PM, Wed., Dec. 7, 2022 at St. Helen Catholic Church, followed at 2:00 PM by the Mass of the Resurrection which will be celebrated by Fr. Francisco Carbajal.  At her request, burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with her nine granddaughters serving as her pallbearers.

Dorotea Garcia Montoya, known to virtually everyone as Dorothy, was born Oct. 31, 1947 in Encino, NM to the home of Dolores (Madril) and Juan Garcia, and died at her home surrounded by her beloved family, on Dec. 3, 2022.  On June 27, 1964 in Encino, she was married to Raymond Montoya.  Shortly after their marriage they moved to Portales.  For 25 years she was employed as an Administrative Assistant in the office of CYFD for the State of New Mexico.  Dorothy was a very compassionate woman, and was always wanting to help others, especially children who were in need.  She enjoyed her frequent trips to Ruidoso, and her weekly lunches with her sisters, who referred to themselves as the “Golden Girls.”  Since her family was her most prized possession, cooking for them and maintaining a spotlessly clean home were priorities for Mrs. Montoya.  Her family loved the large variety of foods that she prepared.  Dorothy never missed a family event, which was quite a feat as she had such a large family.  She enjoyed shopping and relaxing in her “Retirement Room” and watching her shows on the Lifetime channel.

Mrs. Montoya is survived by Raymond, her husband of 58 years of their home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Pila Montoya and Fabian and Adela Montoya of Portales; two daughters, Delores Montoya of Portales and Ramona Montoya-Cuellar and wife, Mandee of San Antonio, TX; fourteen grandchildren, Jerry Montoya, Jr., Ray Mike Montoya, Adrian Walker, Anthony Montoya, Joshua Montoya, Samantha Montoya, Leandra Montoya, Marissa Walker, Emiliana Rios, Sabrina Loya, Faye Montoya, Miranda Montoya, Layna Montoya and Lexi Montoya; ten great-grandchildren, Aubrie Walker, Ava Walker, Eldon Walker, Lola Rios, Dorian Montoya Nunez, Eli Loya, Rio Loya, Jaiden Fonseca, Jordyn Fonseca and Isaiah Montoya; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rudy (Virgie) Garcia of Portales and Andy (Mary) Garcia of Roswell; four sisters, Josie Garcia, Aurora Flores and Priscilla Archibeque all of Portales and Mabel Urioste of Ponca City, OK; a brother-in-law, Moises Tapia of Portales; and two sisters-in-law, Magdalena (Lorenzo) Garcia of Encino, NM and Diana (Arthur) Garcia of Portales.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Lorenzo Garcia and Arthur Garcia, two sisters, Senaida Tapia and Jane Salas and a son, Jerry Montoya.
