Emilia Pena (Pena) Hernandez

The Mass of the Resurrection for Emilia P. Hernandez, 65, of Portales, will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Fri. Sept. 11, 2020 at St. Helen Catholic Church with Fr. Francisco Carbajal officiating.  Her sons, Juan Rudolfo Hernandez, Ramon Hernandez, Gabriel Hernandez, Manuel Olivas and Gernaro Olivas, Jr. will serve as honorary pallbearers.  Interment will follow in the Portales Cemetery.

On Sunday, June 14, 2020, Emilia Peña Hernandez, loving wife and mother of eleven children, passed away at the age of 65.

Emilia was born on May 30, 1955 in Saragosa, TX to Jose and Teresa Peña. Emilia was a housewife and enjoyed preparing meals for the family as they worked as general laborers. Every morning she would make 3-5 dozen tortillas that would be used for lunch for her family as well as their friends. When she wasn’t cooking for her family she enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and sewing. She loved looking after and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jośe and Teresa Peña, and grandson Jośe Miguel Angel Hernandez. She is survived by her husband Rodolfo “Fito” Hernandez and her 11 children, Juan Rodolfo Hernandez of Portales,NM , Emilia Hernandez (Jorge Zamora)  of Portales,NM , Ramon Hernandez of Portales, NM, Rosalinda Hernandez of Portales, NM,  Gabriel Hernandez (Leeanne) of Kerrville, TX, Angela (Mauro Noe) Gonzalez of Portales,NM, Maria (Jaime) Rojas of Ciudad Juarez, Manuel (Amanda) Olivas of Tecolotito, NM, Delia Olivas of Portales, NM, Celia Olivas of Portales, NM, and Genaro Olivas Jr. of Plainview, TX, her 30 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived  by her sisters Julia Peña of Carlsbad and Antonia Olivas of Portales and her brother Juan Peña of Brownsfield, TX,  numerous nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and friends who will miss her.
