Esperanza Chavez Garcia was born May 4, 1936 in Balmorhea, TX to the home of Amada (Sanchez) and Ignacio Chavez and died at her home in Portales on the evening of Dec. 23, 2021.  In Pecos, TX on Oct. 19, 1952, she was married to Manuel Garcia.  They made their home in Pecos until 1968, when they moved to Portales.  Mrs. Garcia enjoyed doing crosswords and other word puzzles.  She also liked to do crocheting.  Mrs. Garcia was an excellent cook, and everything she made was wonderful.  Her red chili, and her stuffing for the holiday turkeys was among the family's favorites. She always said a blessing over the food before she served it, and claimed that was the reason it was so good.  Mrs. Garcia was a very loving person, and welcomed everyone to her home with love.  She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Manuel Garcia of Portales; three sons, Joe Garcia of Portales, Guadalupe Garcia and his fiance, Rosa Sosa of Las Cruces, NM, and Abel Garcia and Latricia Sanchez of Clovis; four daughters, Gloria Garcia and Frank Huerta of Portales, Cruz Lopez of Odessa, TX, Carmen and Michael Pena and Rebecca and Mark Montoya of Portales; 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Pablo Chavez of Hobbs, NM, Amador Chavez of Pecos, TX and Israel Chavez of Hereford, TX; and three sisters, Ignacia Padilla of Indio, CA, Mary Chavez of Lubbock, TX and Janie Flores of Texas City, TX.  She was preceded in death by both of her parents, three brothers, Delores Chavez, Ignacio Chaves, Jr., and Raymond Chavez, a sister, Teresa Rubio, a son Pedro Garcia and two daughters, Socorro Olivas and Natalia Garcia.
