Fidel Orlando Duran, Jr. was born May 11, 1943 in Coyote Creek, Mora County, NM to the home of Beatrice (Medina) and Fidel Orlando Duran, and died Dec. 2, 2023.  He was the third child born in a family of eight sons and five daughters.  The family moved to Portales in 1960, when he was 17 years old.  For several years Fidel worked as a custodian and in the dish room in the cafeteria at ENMU.  Through a group support employment, Fidel worked at the Portales Thrift Store and later with a mobile custodial crew at Cannon Air Force Base Commissary.  In 1993, Fidel moved to Clovis to make his home at ENMRSH.  From then until is retirement in 2007, he volunteered at a variety of non-profits including the Salvation Army, and the Hope Center Food Bank.

Fidel enjoyed watching western movies and playing pool.  He loved listening to music of all kinds, but especially guitar music.  He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.  Fidel was an outdoorsman at heart, and enjoyed doing yard work and going fishing.

He is survived by four of his sisters, Julia Davis of Denver, Emelina Bryant of CA, Irene Jasso of Portales and Paula Musa of Denver; two brothers, Placido Duran of Portales and Manuel Duran; as well as nieces and nephews; and his friends and housemates at ENMRSH in Clovis.  He was preceded in death by his parents, five of his brothers, Tony, Margarito, Dennis, Richard and Larry Duran and a sister, Orilia Meese.
