Recital of the Rosary for Francisco Amaro will be held at 9:00 AM on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at St. Helen Catholic Church followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM with Fr. Francisco Carbajal officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Ricardo Torres, Jaden Amaro, Jarren Amaro, Calletano Castillo, Rafael Castillo and Robert Zapata serving as pallbearers.
Francisco "Kiko" Amaro, 93, of Portales, was born on May 11, 1933, in Olton, Texas to the home of Benita (Maldonado) and Epifano Amaro and passed away on July 24, 2026, in Portales.
Francisco grew up in Olton, Texas and moved to Portales in 1958. He married Amelia Lucero on November 13, 1958, in Portales. She passed away on April 12, 2016. Francisco worked as a farm laborer and later he was a cook at Eastern New Mexico University. Following his work for ENMU, he worked as an auto mechanic.
He is survived by three daughters Kathy Romero of Portales, Cindy and Roberto Zapata of Hereford, TX and Jessica and Alberto Castillo of Morton, TX; a son, Frankie and Heather Amaro of Dexter, NM; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Francisco is preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Epifania Martinez in 2024 and Margaret Prieto in 2015, two brothers, Richard and Paul, three sisters, Celia, Dominga and Lucia and his wife, Amelia Amaro in 2016.
