The Rosary for Gary Jaramillo, 60, of Portales, will be recited at 9:00 AM, Fri., Jan. 16, 2026 at St. Helen Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 AM by Deacon Paul Benoit. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery.
Gary Joseph Jaramillo was born Feb. 10, 1965, in Portales, to the home of Maria Socorro "Victoria" (Armijo) and Cloribio "Claude" Jaramillo, and died at his home on Jan. 8, 2026. Gary grduated from Portales High School in 1983. After school, he worked part time at the Cattle Baron where he washed dishes, prepped salads for the salad bar and cooked. Following high school, Gary went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and Psychology, graduating in 2013. While attending college, he worked as a grounds keeper at the university. For several years, he was employed at Excel Meat Processing in Friona, TX. Later he was employed by Southwest Canners, and Nunn's Peanut Company before going to work at Borden Peanut Processing. About ten years ago he was injured on the job, and had been disabled since that time.
Gary loved to go to garage sales and search for antiques. He was particularly interested in collecting axes. He recently had found a 1943 Boy Scout axe that he was very proud of. In addition to collecting antiques, he enjoyed driving his Camaro and riding motorcycles.
He is survived by two sons, Christopher Jaramillo of Portales and Henry Jaramillo of Austin, TX; a daughter, Alexandrea Jaramillo of Austin, TX; his parents, Victoria and Claude Jaramillo of Portales; a brother, Patrick Jaramillo of Portales; and a sister and brother-in-law, Claudine and Tom Suchocki of Arvada, CO.
