Graveside services for Haskle Lee Elrod will be at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, December 17th, 2022, at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Darren Elrod, Jordan Cordova, Earl Rife, Chris Evanoff, Jonathan Baca and Members of the Portales Fire Department.
Haskle “Bud” Lee Elrod born December 13th, 1938, in Portales New Mexico to Martha Elrod (Davis) and James Lee Elrod. Bud had 1 sister Peggy (Elrod) Peterson. Bud Married the love of his life Lavon Maxine (Swopes) Elrod on January 13th, 1955, and they were married for 64 years before her death in 2020. Bud was drafted into US Army in 1961 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1963. He worked for Portales Postal Service as a letter carrier before becoming a USDA Inspector which he retired from in 1995. The USDA service moved the family to different towns in New Mexico from Deming, Roswell, Lovington but the family moved back to Portales and remained there till health issues declined with Bud and Lavon. Bud and Lavon lived in the Portales area most of their lives and were involved in numerous Baptist Churches and Bud was Music Director in small Churches in Roswell and Lovington New Mexico. Bud also had numerous jobs after retiring including working for local Hatchery as a driver and working for local bottling company as security guard. Bud enjoyed playing Golf and playing billiards at local areas. When his and Lavon’s health started to decline their son Darren and wife Holly moved them to Marshall Texas to assist with their care and support. Bud enjoyed his time in Marshall and found new friends and was happy with Texas life. He moved to an assisted Living center in Marshall the past few months of his life and had wonderful experience of new friends and time spent in the community before his passing there on December 9th, 2022.
Bud had 2 Children Darren Lee Elrod and Darla Wilhoit. He had 4 grandchildren Brittany Evanoff, Trisha Baca, Jordan Cordova, Erika Arredondo. He also had 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
