Funeral services for Heidi Foshee, 62, of Portales, will be held at 2:00 PM, Thurs., Feb 5, 2026 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Don Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Charles Anderson, David VanWettering, Darwin Culpepper, Joe Baranello, Joe Helak, and Kile Clark serving as pallbearers.
Heidi Ann Foshee was born Dec. 4, 1963, in Grosse Pointe, MI to the home of Isabelle Helen (Zimmerman) and Thomas McLaughlin Garred, and passed from this life on the morning of Feb. 2, 2026 in Albuquerque, NM. Ms Foshee grew up in Warren, MI near Detroit. She graduated from Cousino High School in that same area. Ms Foshee went on to attend Michigan Christian University from 1982 to 1984. While attending there, she played on the softball team. From there she transferred to Oklahoma Christian University where she graduated in 1986.
Ms Foshee taught Chemistry, Physics and Math courses in El Paso, TX from 1986 to 1989. She continued teaching for a year in Harlingen, TX before moving to Greenwood, AR. She taught there from 1990 until 1992. At that time, she became a houseparent at the New Mexico Chrisitan Children’s Home in Portales. Three years later, in 1995, she moved to an adoption case worker. Later she became the director of the Single Mother’s Program for the Children’s Home. Her last position before leaving the Children’s Home was as the Child Placement Director. In addition to her regular duties, Heidi helped with the 4-H program and worked particularly with the raising of rabbits. She had been disabled since 2011.
Her church home was Southside Church of Christ where she played on the Softball team, and thoroughly enjoyed teaching the Bible Class for two- and three-year-olds and four and five year olds. Heidi enjoyed reading. Ms Foshee was always ready to help however she could. In the apartment complex where she lived, she sometimes helped the children with their homework. She remained a caregiver to the end.
She is survived by a son, Steven-Michael Foshee of Portales; a daughter and son-in-law, Samantha and Joe Baranello of Virginia Beach, VA; and two brothers, Thomas Garred, II and Jim Garred both of Panama City, FL. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, a brother, Steven Garred and a sister, Roberta Bobsey-Baird.
