Herman Thomas Pena

Funeral services for Herman Pena, 68, of Portales will be held at 2:00 PM, Tues., Dec. 23, 2025 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Mario Hernandez officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Michael Pena, David Pena, Albert Pena, Robert Pena, Michael Pena, Jr., Aaron Pena, Ruben Rodriguez and Daniel Pena serving as pallbearers.

Herman Thomas Pena was born May 14, 1957 in Portales, to the home of Frances (Barela) and Samuel Segundo Pena and died Sat. evening, Dec. 20, 2025.  Mr. Pena lived his entire lifetime in Portales, and was a 1977 graduate of Portales High School.  He enjoyed watching whatever was on television and listening to Spanish music.  Herman was a very friendly and outgoing man.  He rode his bicycle around town, visiting with his many acquaintances.  He was a regular at the Mental Health Resource Center activities where he had made many friends.

He is survived by four brothers, Robert Pena, David Pena, Albert Pena and his wife, Melinda, and Michael Pena all of Portales; and a sister, Joann Zapata of Morton, TX.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents, two brothers, Dennis Pena who died May 4, 2025 and Danny Pena who died Dec. 5, 2021 as well as by an infant sister, Gloria.
