The Rosary for Hermila Lopez, 81, of Portales, will be recited at 7:00 PM, Tues., Nov. 21, 2023 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel by the Catholic Daughters. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Wed., Nov. 22, 2023 at St. Helen Catholic Church by Fr. Eli Valadez. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Federico Lopez, Jose Lopez, Fabian Coronado, Joseph Amalla, Quintin Baeza, Sergio Madrid, Joshua Palacios, and Franky Cook serving as pallbearers.
Hermila T. Lopez was born April 4, 1942 in VanHorn, TX, to the home of Jesus and Ramona Tarango, and died on Nov. 18, 2023 in Midland, TX while visiting her granddaughter, Mirayma Cook. She is the 6th eldest child of 10 kids. She loved her siblings dearly. Hermila married Fidel Lopez, Sr. On Nov. 2nd, 1960, in Littlefield, TX. Later they moved to Portales, NM to begin their family.
Hermila worked for almost 25 years at Sunland Peanut Company, eventually becoming a supervisor. After retiring in 2012, she became a homemaker who loved cooking, crocheting, knitting, and being with family. She would often make blankets for her friends and family members. She also loved traveling, visiting rivers and oceans. Her greatest joy was being outside, gardening. She loved all plants and flowers, with the rose being her favorite. She will be greatly missed by so many.
She is survived by three sons, four daughters and their spouse’s. Anjelica Coronado (Paul) of Lubbock, Tx; Rosa Lopez of Wolfforth, Tx; Lisa Lopez (Oscar) of Broadview, NM; Federico Lopez (Carolyn) of Anton, Tx; Jose Lopez (Anjelica) of Portales, NM; Sandra Lopez of Midland, Tx; and Fidel Lopez Jr. (Leticia) of Wauchula, FL., along with 28 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Fidel M. Lopez, her parents, Jesus and Ramona Tarango, her daughter, Estela L. Roberts, her grandson, San Juan Coronado, her great grandson, Abel Cook, her sisters, Olivia T. Lozano, Maria de Jesus T. Hartnett, and her brothers, Manuel Tarango and Dimas Tarango.
