Hubert Morgan Obituary

Hubert Lloyd Morgan Jr. was born on September 18, 1942, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, to Hubert Sr. and Cleo (Eminger) Morgan. He passed away on October 23, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and deep connection to his community.  Hubert attended L.L. Brown Elementary, Portales Junior High, and graduated from Portales High School in 1961. From an early age, he worked alongside his father building houses, learning the value of dedication and craftsmanship. He also spent time working on a survey crew for power lines, gaining experience that would shape his strong work ethic.
In 1963 Hubert married Donda S. Ramey in Juarez, Mexico, later reaffirming their vows at the Presbyterian Church with Bobby and Betty Crane as witnesses. Hubert began his professional career with John Hancock Insurance in 1965 and worked there until 1970.  During this time, he also developed an interest in the stock market working with Keith Kelt.
In 1972 Hubert returned to Portales to join his father in the real estate business—a calling that would become his life’s work. Through real estate he built lasting relationships and found great joy in helping families find not just houses but their forever homes. His warmth and sincerity made him someone people trusted and remembered.
Hubert cherished his mornings at McCarty’s where coffee was always best enjoyed in the company of friends. He had a way of making people feel welcome, and his kindness and easy smile left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Whether it was during his time owning the Captain’s Table, spending weekends at the Portales Country Club golfing and dancing, or cheering on his beloved ENMU teams at football and basketball games, Hubert was a vibrant and familiar presence in the community.
Above all, Hubert was devoted to his family. He was a loving father to his daughter, Melanie Morgan, who brought him immense joy. That joy only grew with the arrival of his grandson, Aiden Paterson, with whom he shared a truly special bond from the very beginning. From Aiden’s birth through his graduation from the University of Connecticut and beyond, Hubert took great pride in every moment. There was nothing in life that made him prouder than his grandson.

Hubert’s life was one of genuine connection, quiet generosity, and enduring love. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.  Hubert is survived by his daughter, Melanie Morgan, of Mystic, CT, and her son, Aiden Paterson, of San Diego, CA. Hubert is also survived by his younger siblings, Celesta Ernst of Columbine Valley, CO, and Mickey Morgan of Portales, NM. Hubert had two nieces Courtney (Miguel) Tobon of Columbine, Valley CO, and Morgan Ernst of Denver, CO, and two great nieces Valentina and Luciana Tobon.
