Ina Lou (Johnson) Varenkamp

Ina Lou Varenkamp was born Dec. 26, 1930 in Mountain View, AR to the home of Esther Lou (Hooten) and Ralph Fenton Johnson and died on the evening of Aug. 13, 2021 in Portales, NM. She moved to Las Cruces, NM at the age of 14, and graduated from high school there in the class of 1948.  On Aug. 31, 1950, she was married to Lloyd M. Varenkamp.  In the mid 1950's they relocated to El Paso.  In 2011 she returned to Las Cruces where she remained until 2019 when she came to Portales to live near her daughter and son-in-law.  Mrs. Varenkamp enjoyed quilting.  She had a wonderful gift of hospitality.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Lois Varenkamp of Duncanvillle, TX;two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Randy Rankin of Portales and Beth and Dean Hennings of Pearland, TX; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Eula Jean Sherlin and Neva Jo Ferrell and by her husband, Lloyd Varenkamp who died Aug. 12, 2000.

Mrs. Varenkamp will be interred in the Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 10:30 AM, Fri., Sept. 3, 2021.  A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Restlawn Memorial Chapel, 8817 Dyer St, El Paso, TX 79904.
