Janelle (Slack) Jackson

Onita Janelle Jackson was born Sept. 25, 1932 in Elida, NM to the home of Bessie Beatrice (Miller) and Henry Wallace Slack and died on the afternoon of Aug. 9, 2022 in Portales, NM.  Mrs. Jackson grew up in the Elida area where she attended school.  On Feb. 10, 1951 she was married to S. L. Jackson.  Mr. Jackson preceded her in death on May 20, 2003 after more than 52 years of marriage.  She enjoyed doing crafts of all kinds, gardening and reading a wide variety of materials.  No services are planned, but the family requests that those who desire to make memorial contributions send them to Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.

she is survived by a son, Rex Jackson of Floyd; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sherrie Jackson of Floyd and Sandra and Malcolm Long of Albuquerque, NM; two grandchildren, Scott Long and wife, Dede and Matthew Long; and four great-grandchildren, Kayla, Megan, Jared and Christine Long.  Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jerry Slack who died Feb. 27, 2008.
