Jeanne (Thompson) Rawls

A private, family only graveside service for Jeanne Rawls, 88, of Lubbock, TX will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Mon., April 20, 2020 in the Portales Cemetery with Rev. Brad Morgan officiating.

Jeanne Rawls was born Oct. 17, 1931 in Success, AR, and died April 16, 2020 in Lubbock, TX.  The family moved several times before settling in Portales in 1947.  Jeanne graduated from Portales High School in 1949, and went on to earn a degree in education from Eastern New Mexico University.  Jeanne taught fourth grade for four years in Artesia, NM.  On May 30, 1964, she was married to Robert S. (Bob) Rawls.  They were married slightly over 43 years before his death on July 6, 2007.

Mr. Rawls had been widowed, and she instantly became Mother to four young children.  She was a very talented artist, but seemed to rarely find time to exercise her talent.  She was a lifelong member of the Baptist church, and was currently a member of Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Nancy Rawls of Lubbock; three daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Rawls, Belinda Rawls and Jeana and Homer Bramlett all of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Dennis (Amie) Rawls, Kyle Rawls and his husband, Paul Derby, Lance (Christy) Rawls and Tanner Bramlett; two great-grandchildren, Colton Rawls and Oliver Rawls-Derby; a sister-in-law, Nancy Thompson of St. Louis, MO; as well as several nieces and nephews.  Besides her husband, Bob, she was preceded in death by her parents, James and Julia Thompson, a brother, Bryant Thompson who died in 2019, and a sister, Carmen Thompson who died in 2016.
