Jerome Terral

Graveside services for Jerome Terral, 90, of Causey, will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 3, 2022 at the Causey Cemetery with Dr. Glenn McCoy officiating, under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary. Jerome died on December 27, 2021. There will be a visitation on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Wheeler Mortuary (500 E. 3rd Street, Portales, New Mexico 88130), from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. A meal will be served for family and friends at the Causey Community Center at 12:00 noon on January 3, 2022. Darrell Caviness, Jimmy Duncan, Terry Don Watson, Bill Watson, Carry Jae Watson and Koddy Watson will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Sokora, Mike Bolton, Jeff Bolton, Bruce Crowley, Brandon Sokora and Nathan Rice.

Jimmy Jerome Terral was born on February 9, 1931 at the “home place” in Roosevelt County, to the home of Jennie Dee (Garner) and Dawson (‘Doc’) Terral, and grew up and lived in the Causey area. On Sept. 9, 1954, he married Mary Lee Bolton and they made their home in Causey; they had two children, Jimmy and Shonni. He was a member of the Causey Baptist Church.

Jerome was many things to many people - he was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, farmer, occasional cowboy, truck driver, mechanic, musician, a friend to all, served his community well, and never failed to help someone who needed help.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Shonni and Greg Sokora of Lubbock, Texas; two grandchildren, Brandon (Lindsay) Sokora and Lynsey (Nathan) Rice; six great-grandchildren, Ava, Aliya, Alexander and Austin Sokora, and Ellison and Lyla Rice, and a dear brother-in-law, Mike Bolton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Terral, his parents, his son Jimmy Terral, and his brother, J.D. Terral.
