Jerry Walter Redmon was born June 5, 1942, in Boise, ID to the home of Viola Mary (Hotaling) and Merle Walter Redmon, and died on Jan. 28, 2026 in Portales at the age of 83 years.
Mr. Redmon grew up in Cascade, ID. He joined the US Air Force as a young man, and served four years in Japan. When he returned home, he worked for a year at a feed lot, before going to work in the Idaho prison system. He began as a Correctional Officer, and retired as the Deputy Warden of Security at the Idaho Maximum Security Facility in 1995.
In Boise, ID on June 5, 1966, he was married to Marcia Ellen Box. Throughout his lifetime, he enjoyed doing woodworking. He made doll houses, and saddle shops with miniature saddles as well as saddle trees. Eventually he graduated to making adult sized saddles. After he retired he and his wife enjoyed traveling around the country until her death on May 10, 2024. In October of that same year, he came to Portales to make his home with his daughter and son-in-law. They built him a woodworking shop, and he continued creating items until recently.
