Graveside services for Jimalou Widener, 79, of Floyd, NM will be held at 2:00 PM, Fri., Jan 29, 2021 in the Floyd Cemetery with Scott P. Reeves officiating. Clovis Gray, Leon Nall, Howard Miller, Randy Mitchell, Kendall Buzard and Mike Standifer will serve as pallbearers.
Dalhia Jimalou Widener was born Dec. 27, 1941 in Portales to the home of Daffia (Wright) and Garnet Bush and died early on the morning of Jan. 26, 2021 at her home in the Floyd community. Jima grew up in the Bethel community, and graduated from Floyd High School in 1959. On May 16, 1959 in Portales, she was married to Harold Widener. They moved to Washington, DC where Mr. Widener finished training to become an FBI agent, and Jima became a fingerprint examiner for the agency. From Washington, they moved to his first assignment in Boston. Later they moved to Garland, TX where she was employed by the Garland Police Department. Her job was to organize their fingerprint files and teach them how to categorize and file them in an orderly fashion. Mr. Widener's next assignment was in Tyler, TX, where they lived for fourteen years. During that time she worked at various jobs until finally beginning employment with the State of Texas Social Services Department. In 1979, they returned to Floyd to make their home. She began working for the ASCS office as a Farm Assistant. She retired from that position in 2013.
Jima was a Den Mother for her son's Cub Scout Den. She never missed a ballgame or a track meet for any of her children or grandchildren if it was humanly possible to attend. She took some training as a photographer, and became an excellent photographer. Jima enjoyed being able to take pictures and develop them herself in her home dark room.
She is survived by Harold, her husband of almost 62 years; her son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Kelly Widener of Portales; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Roger McGhee of Tucson, AZ; eight grandchildren, Maggie Ryan, Kaylie Ryan and Lauren Ryan all of Flagstaff, AZ, Kelby Widener of Austin, TX, Caleb Widener of Roswell, NM, Electra and Kevin Patrick of Tucson, AZ, Dylan Miles of Tucson, AZ and Matthew McGhee of Floyd; three great-grandchildren, Easton and Krew Patrick and Reese Widener; two sisters, Elinda Wood of Floyd and Margie Plummer of Portales. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Cathy Ryan.
