Jimmy Dee Scott was born Sept. 30, 1935 in Norman, OK to the home of Elizabeth Jewel (Bulls) and Haskel D. Scott and died on the evening of Feb. 21, 2024 in Clovis, NM.  At a very early age, Jim grew up in the Floyd community, and attended school there.  He was a 1953 graduate of Floyd High School.  Following high school, he and two friends decided to go to Colorado to work in the coal mines.  He eventually returned to Portales, and began his career with the United States Post Office as a janitor.

In 1960, he and another friend joined the United States Air Force.  It was that same year that he married Carolyn Watkins.  The couple had a son together, but later divorced.  During his service years, he was stationed at Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake, WA.  Following his discharge in 1964, he returned to Portales to make his home, and went back to the Post Office.  In addition, he attended classes at Eastern New Mexico University, and graduated in 1976.  Jim had worked his way up in the Post Office, and following his graduation, he was promoted to the position of Post Master.  He served in that capacity until 1990.

Following his retirement he became a realtor.  In addition, he drove for Hamilton Auto, transferring cars from one location to another.  In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time in Ruidoso.  He also built a number of elkhorn chandeliers.  Jim loved working in his yard, as well as reading and working crossword puzzles.  Through the years, he had amassed a large collection of postage stamps.

It was on Dec. 31, 1982 in Ruidoso, that he was married to Jane Millar.  With that marriage, he gained four more children, three daughters and a son.  He and Jane enjoyed more than 40 years together prior to her death on January 18, 2023.

Jim is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Rene Scott of Scottsdale, AZ and Van Askew of Portales; his three daughters and sons-in-law, Exa Kay and Randy Mitchell and Edie Gay and Jason Renfro all of Clovis and Jan and Blake Bunch of Madison, AL; 10 grandchildren, Maxwell (Katherine) Scott, Mitchell Scott, Sydney (Chad) Wasmoen, Blakeley Bunch, Marc (Amanda) Haufmann, Ky (Rebekah) Mitchell, Rhet Roberts and partner, Kevin Pate, Macy (Micah) McCoy, Kanyon Renfro and Dylan Bunch; six great-grandchildren, Zander Fleming, Mila Mitchell, Miles Mitchell, Owen Haufmann, Jade McCoy and Forrest McCoy; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Carolyn Scott of San Antonio, TX and a sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Ken Dix of Albuquerque.  Besides his wife, Jane, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bill Scott and a sister, Mary Ann Scott.
