Joe Lee Howard

     A graveside service for Joe Lee Howard, 85, of Floyd, will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Floyd Cemetery with Rev. Phillip Smith officiating.

     Joe Lee Howard was born in Portales, to the home of Myrtle and Joe Bailey Howard and passed away on August 2, 2025, in Portales.

     Joe Howard grew up in Floyd and graduated from Floyd High School in 1959.  He attended and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University and then attended New Mexico State University where he received his PhD in Mathematics.  Joe worked at Oklahoma State University as a Professor for six years.  He then worked as a Professor at New Mexico Highlands University for 23 years until he retired in 2000.  After retiring, Joe moved back to Floyd where he helped his older brother on the farm.  Joe enjoyed hunting for arrow heads in his free time.

     Joe is survived by his two brothers, Jim Howard and Jack Howard & wife Nita, and numerous cousins.

     Joe was preceded in death by his parents.
