A celebration of life service for Joe Howard Whitehurst, 81, of Portales, will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 19, 2025, Central Christian Church with Jeff Wilkerson officiating. Past and present members of the 4P Trap Club will be honorary pallbearers.
Joe Howard Whitehurst was born on July 15, 1943, in Friona, Texas, to the home of Martha Ann (Cloud) and John Thomas Whitehurst and went home to be with the Lord on July 9, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas.
Joe was a truck driver for the majority of his life, driving for several companies and individuals. He drove for Walmart for 17 years before his retirement in 2010. Joe married the love of his life, Vickie in 2010 and they enjoyed 15 years of love and companionship. Joe was a past president of the Clovis Evening Lions Club as well as a past president of the New Mexico Trap Shooters Association.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha Whitehurst; his brothers Harold, Tom, and Al Whitehurst, and his sister Geraldean Wilkerson. He is survived by his wife Vickie of the home; one son and one daughter; three stepsons and five stepdaughters, and his sister Lahonda Horton of Clovis as well as many nephews and nieces and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Clovis Evening Lions Club or the 4P Trap Club.
