John "Andy" Fair

A memorial service for “Andy” Fair, 63, of Clovis, will be held at 10:00 AM, Sat., Aug. 5, 2023 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Portales with Pastor Cheston Fair officiating, assisted by Josh McVey.  All of Andy’s numerous friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.

John Andrew Fair, known to virtually everyone as “Andy,” was born June 13, 1960 in Clovis to the home of Shirlene Yvonne (Hillis) and John Wilfred Fair, and died on the evening of Aug. 1, 2023, in Lubbock, TX after a very brief illness.  The family moved from Clovis to Portales when he was a small boy.  Andy attended school in Floyd, and graduated in 1978.

When Andy was 13 years old, he began working for a horse trainer.  On May 25, 1978 he established his own business.  In addition to breaking and training horses, for 35 years he also shod horses.  Since 2015 he had ceased to shoe horses, but he continued working until just a short time before he died.  In addition to his business, Andy enjoyed doing horseshoe crafts.  Andy's life revolved around his family and horses.

On July 16, 2004, in Portales, he was married to Tracy Dee Achen.  For several years he was active in Tai Kwando, and had earned a 2nd Degree Black Belt.  Andy’s favorite place to go was into the Pecos Wilderness on horseback.  Andy enjoyed a special relationship with each of his grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Tracy of their home in Clovis; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Cheston and Beth Fair of Elida, Blake Fair of Portales, Clayton Scorzafava and Justin and Dominique Scorzafava of Clovis, NM; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rebecca and Josh McVey and Lacy Fair all of Portales; nine grandchildren, Ryan Fair, Tanlea Fair, Zoey Fair, Kendra Diaz, Alex Diaz, Jade Lopez, Kaiah Fair-Carpenter, Annika McVey and Julia Scorzafava;; his step-mother, Grace Fair of Portales and his step-father, Bob Rogers of Portales; two brothers, Fred Fair of Fritch, TX and Bobby (Tonya) Rogers of Portales; five sisters, Roxie (Joe) Gilmore of Elida, NM, Brenda Lucas and her significant other, David Hall of Clovis, Sommer (Justin) Goodwin of Rogers, NM, LaFonda Boyles and Shawna McNeal both of Portales.  Andy was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Fair on April 16, 2011, his father, John Fair on Nov. 25, 2020 and by his mother, Shirlene Rogers who died Nov. 29, 2021.
