Since 2015 he had ceased to shoe horses, but he continued working until just a short time before he died. In addition to his business, Andy enjoyed doing horseshoe crafts. Andy's life revolved around his family and horses.
On July 16, 2004, in Portales, he was married to Tracy Dee Achen. For several years he was active in Tai Kwando, and had earned a 2nd Degree Black Belt. Andy’s favorite place to go was into the Pecos Wilderness on horseback. Andy enjoyed a special relationship with each of his grandkids.
