The Rosary for Joseph “Dario” Lujan, 75, of Portales will be recited at 9:00 AM, Monday, June 1, 2026 at St. Helen Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 AM by Fr. Francisco Carbajal. Mr. Lujan’s grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Joseph Lujan, known to family and friends as “Dario” was born May 22, 1951 in Santa Rosa, New Mexico to the home of Lucy (Luna) and Faustin Lujan, and passed from this life on May 26th, 2026 in Lubbock, Texas. When he was a tiny baby, his family moved to Clovis, New Mexico. On February 14, 1974 in Ora Grande, New Mexico he married Esther Martinez. They moved from Clovis and made their home in Portales. For several years he worked driving trucks. Eventually he obtained his construction license and established Lujan Construction Company.
Dario was a man who loved building not only homes and projects, but a life centered around family. He transformed his home into a place full of life and memories. He especially loved spending time with his wife, Esther. Together they enjoyed taking drives together, whether it was a short trip or a long one. They also shared a love for gardening and he took pride in his prize winning “tomatoes.” On peaceful days, they would visit his ranch to relax and enjoy the quiet.
Above all, Dario loved his family deeply. He shared a special bond with each of his grandchildren and took pride in teaching his children and grandchildren how to build, and fix things and to work hard. The lessons and memories he gave his family will live on for generations.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph Lujan, Jr. and Mariano and Brenda Lujan; five grandchildren, Nichole Lujan and her fiancé Jaime Honorato, Mariano Lujan, Jr. and his fiancé, Aliyah Garcia, J. J. Lujan and his wife, Analysia, Joseph Lujan and Abri Lujan; four great-grandchildren, Taylor and Mariana Lujan and Diego and Lucas Honorato; three brothers, Tommy, Bobby and David Lujan; and two sisters, Nora Garcia and Mary Ann Baca. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helen Rando and Becky Baca and by a grandson, Xavier Lujan.
