A rosary for Josephina Gonzales, 65, of Portales, will be recited at 9:00 A.M., Monday, January 13, 2025, at St Helen Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:00 A.M., Monday, January 13, 2025, at St Helen Catholic Church with Fr. Sotero Sena officiating. Pallbearers are Jonathon Gonzales, Paul Jaramillo Jr, Christopher Moreno, Santiago Segovia Jr, Nicholous Charley, Henry Charley, Mark Acosta, and Gabriel Hernandez serving as pallbearers. Honorary pall bearers are Bobby Terry and Patrick Lujan.
Josephina Gonzales was born to the best mom in the world on September 11, 1959 in New Braunfels, Texas. She was delivered from earthly death to eternal life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to his heavenly home on January 6, 2025 at the age of 65.
Josie was the eighth of ten siblings and had an even larger extended family. She moved to Portales with the family at an early age and attended school there. She was a Portales High School graduate of 1979. She also attended classes at Eastern New Mexico University. As an adult she worked at Allsup’s, at Van Winkle IGA gas station and at Community Homecare as a homecare provider.
Josie was an avid fan of sports, especially football. She was a children’s baseball coach as well as adult co-ed softball coach for many years. Once she stopped coaching, she was still a loyal spectator. She supported kids of any age with their school, sports, and church fundraising. She loved all genre of music with her favorite being Tex-Mex. She was a member of St Helen’s Catholic Church where she made all her sacraments.
Josie is survived by five siblings. Jose Moreno and Ninfa of Portales, Ester Mena of Snyder, TX, Suzy Ragland and James of Artesia, NM, George Gonzales and Stacy of Midland, TX, and Sandy Terry of Portales. Numerous nieces, nephews, including greats, and great-greats. A multitude of cousins and some really great friends. Friends who were like family to her included Miranda, Henry, Nick, Eli, Irene, Carmen, Natalia, the Urioste family and too many more to list.
She was preceded in death by her beautiful mother Hermelinda Gonzales Hernandez, brothers, Raymond and David Gonzales, sisters Guadalupe Martinez, Maria De La Luz Acosta. Her nephews Michael and Hector Acosta and niece Melissa Acosta whom she helped raise.
Josie was an exceptionally wonderful person. She would help and give to anyone that needed. She was a giant fan of The San Francisco 49’ers and she loved her family and friends. May she rest in perpetual peace in the light of the Lord.
