Karen Lee (Kear) Howard

Memorial services for Karen Howard will be held on March 31, 2023 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel at 1:00 pm.

Karen Lee Howard was born July 6, 1946 to Erva Jean (Hanson) and Leroy Kear in Clayton, NM and passed away on March 8, 2023 in Amarillo,Tx after a short illness.
 

On February 15 1974, she married the love of her life Leroy Howard. They moved several times and in 2021 they settled in Portales, NM to be close to their son and family. One place the Howards lived was Springer, NM. During the time they lived there Mrs. Howard was a dietary supervisor at the Colfax Long Term Facility for nearly 20 years. However, for most of her lifetime Mrs. Howard was a wife and mother. Karen really enjoyed being at home with her family.  For recreation; she loved to travel, crochet, and do jigsaw puzzles.

Karen is survived by husband Leroy Howard of 49 years of Portales.  Daughter, Stephanie Reeser of Craig,CO. Daughter, Stacey Esquibel (Anthony) of Bismark, ND. Son, Steven Howard (Michelle) of Portales, NM. Daughter, Susan Howard of Portales, NM. Step-daughter Ardis Sosa of Tucson, AZ. Step daughter, Marlene Cox (Tom) of Orange, Tx. Step son James Howard (Laurie) of Baytown, Tx; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and another expected shortly; Three sisters, Nancy Davis (Tom) of Albuquerque, NM., Marcy Edmonson (Roger) of Raton, NM, Melissa Allen (David) of Carlsbad, NM. Sister-in-law Betty Jones (Bobby) of Fort Worth, TX. Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her mother, Erva Jean Hanson and step-father, Clifton Davis and 3 sisters Jan Kuhlman, Susie Herman, and Cindy Burns.
