Kenneth Jones Obituary

Graveside services for Kenneth H. Jones, 88, of Venice, FL will be held at 10:00 AM, Sat., Oct. 5, 2024 in the Floyd Cemetery with Rev James Heredia, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Portales officiating.  A visitation will be held at Wheeler Mortuary on Friday, October 4, from 4 PM until 7 PM.

Kenneth H. Jones passed away September 8, 2024 in Venice, FL, surrounded by family.  Kenneth is survived by Angelyn (Hendricks) Jones, his loving wife of 67 years, his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kenneth was born July 17, 1936 to Foy and Bedie Jones of Floyd, NM.  He attended school in Floyd through high school, where he excelled academically, fostered his love of sports and met his sweetheart, Angelyn Hendricks.

After high school, Kenneth attended New Mexico School of Mines in Socorro where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Geophysics.  In 1957, Kenneth and Angelyn were married, and they would eventually have three sons, Stanley in 1958, Robert in 1961 and Michael in 1965.  Kenneth went onto work for Continental Oil Company (CONOCO), where he stayed his entire career.  He began his career on an Exploration Crew, affectionately known as a Doodlebug Crew, as they were modern-day dowsers using seismic recording equipment to search for oil.  The nomadic nature of working for an oil company saw Kenneth and family continually on the move across Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, Colorado and Egypt.  Kenneth retired from Conoco in 1997, ending his tenure as the Chief Western Hemisphere Geophysicist.

In retirement, Ken and Angie moved to Arkansas to be near friends, where he continued his passions for golf, woodworking, traveling in their trailer, square dancing and earning his pilot license.  They were blessed with grandchildren, Jacob, Jenny and Will from Stan and Susan Jones, Emily from Robert and Clare Jones, and Julia and Eva from Mike and Cari Jones.  Ken’s great-grandchildren are Arabella, through Jacob Jones and Kaden through Emily and Kyle Walter.
