Lee Ross Caviness, known to virtually everyone as "Ross," was born May 21, 1950 in Clovis, NM to the home of Mary Ruth (Gardner) and Herschel Lee Caviness, and died early on the morning of April 26, 2021 in Lubbock, TX.  Ross graduated from Causey High School in 1968.  During his school career he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball.  However, his main emphasis was in 4-H and FFA where he showed sheep and hogs and was active in judging.  After graduation, he first attended Panhandle State University in Goodwell, OK.  He later attended New Mexico State University where he continued his education in Ag Ed, and also did livestock judging.

In 1972, Ross returned to Causey to work with his dad on the family farm and ranch.  Following his dad's death, he started and built his own farming and ranching operation.  On Oct. 4, 1975 in Maple, TX, he was married to Jill Wheeler.  To their home were born four children, three daughters and a son.  Ross loved his cattle and raising show steers, and going to stock shows.  After his children began showing animals, he took them to all of their shows.  When he began having grandchildren, whom he adored, and they were old enough, he enjoyed taking them to their competitions as well.  Every Monday night Ross played a friendly poker game with several of his friends for nickels and dimes and occasionally a quarter.  Ross was a member of the Causey Baptist Church.

He is survived by Jill, his wife of more than 45 years, of their home in Causey; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lesli and Marty Frey of Ballinger, TX, Amy and Chad Kimble of Hydro, OK and Julie and Kevin Parker of Eunice, NM; his son and daughter-in-law, Jim Ross and Dusti Caviness of Maljamar, NM; ten grandchildren, Kade, Kason, Jaylee, Jett, Riley, River, Rowdy, Britney and husband, Conner, Charis and Braeton; two brothers, Darrell (Paula) Caviness of Causey, NM and Ronnie Caviness of Portales; and a sister, Fern (Buz) Goodson of Portales; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary Caviness and a sister, Artie Lee Caviness.
