Lola Mae LaShawn (Griffin) Brooks

      A Celebration of Life for Lola Mae LaShawn Griffin Brooks, 54 of Odessa, TX will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel, 500 E. Third St., Portales, NM, with Minister Mariah Strong officiating.

     Guests are invited to wear red or a touch of red in honor of Lola’s radiant spirit—a tribute to her favorite color and the warmth and joy she brought to every moment.

     Lola Mae LaShawn (Griffin) Brooks, beloved wife, devoted mother, dedicated educator, coach, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, at the age of 54.  A guiding light to all who knew her, she will be remembered for her kindness, loyalty, humor, and selfless spirit, as well as the deep love and devotion she poured into her family and friends.

     Born on October 22, 1970, to Lorene Griffin, Lola grew up with a deep sense of faith and compassion. She dedicated her life to mentoring young minds as a coach, schoolteacher, and vice principal, inspiring and encouraging others to reach their full potential. More than an educator, she was a mentor, role model, and steadfast supporter of those in need.

     Lola is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Eric; her children RaeShawn, Gary, Jamar, and Johnathan Brooks; and a host of family members and lifelong friends whose lives were forever touched by her love and generosity.

     She is now reunited in heaven with her mother, Lorene; her sister, Beatrice; and her brother, Maurice Griffin. 

     In true Lola fashion, she leaves us not with sorrow, but with a smile, a laugh, and her favorite farewell: “Peace Out.”
