Louise Elizabeth (Cartere) Southern

Private burial services will be held for Louise Southern, 87, of Elida in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Louise Elizabeth Southern was born July 7, 1934, in Portales to the home of Elizabeth Nancy (McClain) and Louis Carter, and died on the evening of Jan. 17, 2022 in Portales.  Mrs Southern grew up in Portales, and attended the Portales schools.  On Nov. 7, 1954 in Portales, she was married to Charles Allen Southern.  In addition to taking care of her household and seven children, Mrs. Southern also worked outside her home.  At various times, she was employed doing field work, or at the Borden Peanut Co.  Later she provided home care for an elderly lady.

She is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Steve and Lila Southern of Marino Valley, CA, Rick and Elizabeth Southern of New Braunfels, TX, Eddie Southern of Portales and Louis Southern of Elida; two daughters and a son-in-law, Becky and Joe Serrato of Riverside, CA and Robin Southern of Hayfork, CA; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elaine Walker of Portales.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Violet Carter and Frances Northcutt, two brothers, Eugene and Charlie Carter, by a son, Keith Southern who died Dec. 20, 2021, and by her husband, who died in 1995.
