Obituary

Lyman Coult, Jr. was born May 22, 1931 in Fairmont, MN to the home of Jeanette Margaret (Rosholt) and Lyman Harris Coult, and died on the morning of July 30, 2022 in Portales, NM.  Mr. Coult was a 1949 graduate of Fairmont High School, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology from Harvard University.  After graduating, he returned to Fairmont for a brief time, where he joined his mother in her business.  He soon moved to Minneapolis, where he acquired a number of rental properties.  On June 21, 1963, he was married to his wife, Doris Belina.  For a number of years, he and his wife owned Coult Mortgage Co. in St. Paul.  In 1967, they moved to Minnetonka to get farther away from the city.  In 1988, they moved to Pine City, MN where Mr. Coult became a Natural Doctor practicing Homeopathic Medicine.

For the last several years of his life, Mr. Coult made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Randall Stattman.  In 2017, they moved to Portales to make their home to be near their children and grandchildren.  Since living in Portales Mr. Coult had been attending Central Christian Church.

While they made their home on the lake, he enjoyed fishing.  He began the Cross Lake Association, and served as its President.  They worked to rid the lake of the carp, and restocked it with good fish.  In addition to fishing, Mr. Coult was an amateur engineer.  He enjoyed building and creating, and had designed and built a boat lift, and his dock among other projects.

He is survived by two sons, Richard Coult of Tonka Bay, MN and Robert Belina of Mound, MN; a daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Randall Stattman of Portales; four grandchildren, Sara Baldwin, Matthew Belina, Sam Belina and Rylee Belina; and three great-grandchildren, Aedan, Kieran and Varen Baldwin.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Coult, as well as by his wife, Doris, who died in 2016 after 53 years of marriage.
