A graveside service for Madie Swagerty will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at the Elida Cemetery with Scott P Reeves officiating.
Madie Myrtilla Swagerty was born Dec. 17, 1937 in Elida, to the home of Mary Eula (Morrow) and James E. Swagerty, and died very early on the morning of Sept. 2, 2021 in Enid, OK. Madie lived her entire life in the town of Elida, and was a 1955 graduate of Elida High School. Her parents owned a gas station and cafe in Elida, and she and her sister helped in the operation of the business. Following her graduation from high school, she went to work as a typist for the Town of Elida, and later became the Town Clerk and Treasurer. Her duties also included acting as the local librarian. She retired after 47 years in that position.
Madie was an excellent cook and loved to bake pies and cakes and various pastries. At the time of her death she had an extensive collection of cookbooks. In addition, she liked to collect small figurines. In addition, she was also an avid reader.
Madie was preceded in death by both of her parents and her only sister, Martha Jordan. However, she leaves many friends that mourn her passing.
