Memorial services for Manuela Rodriquez, 80, of Portales will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, June 18, 2026 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Kathy Urioste officiating.
Manuela Morales Rodriquez was born Dec. 19, 1945, in Midland, TX to the home of Lovia (Ramirez) and Augustin Morales, and passed from this life on June 10, 2026 in Portales. She grew up in the home of her great-grandmother in Odessa, and as a young adult, she worked in the NICU at the Women’s and Children’s hospital. Later, while working in Artesia on a local farm, she became acquainted with Albert Bieza Rodriquez, and they were married on Aug. 16, 1964. They continued to do farm labor in different locations until 1976, when they moved to Portales. Since living in Portales, Mrs. Rodriquez had been able to remain at home and rear her children, and later care for her grandchildren. Her home was always open to the young people of the neighborhood.
Mrs. Rodriquez was a great cook, and among her family’s favorite dishes were her enchiladas and the stuffing at Thanksgiving. She also enjoyed doing crochet work, and solving crossword puzzles.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Ben and Sarah Rodriquez, Israel Rodriquez and Albert Rodriquez, Jr, and three daughters and a son-in-law, Adrienne Rodriquez, Elizabeth Salas and Veronica and Ray Gutierrez all of Portales; there are 15 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Augustine Morales of Odessa, TX and James Morales of Ft. Worth, TX; and two sisters, Eloisa Morales of Midland, TX and Linda Morales of San Marcus, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Ricky and Mario Morales, and by her husband, Albert Rodriquez who died Aug. 12, 1999.
