Marcene Julia (Nolan) Martin

No formal services are planned for Marcene Martin, 83, of Portales.  Marcene Julia Martin was born June 23, 1939 in New York City, NY to the home of Irene Olivia (Johnson) and Paul Gail Nolan, and died Nov. 29, 2022 in Portales, NM.  Mrs. Martin's father worked in the ship yards, and moved his family to Hawaii shortly after Marcene was born.  They were living there when the Japanese attack occurred on Dec. 7, 1941.  They left Hawaii and moved to Oakland, CA and then in 1948, relocated again to Pleasanton, CA.  Mrs. Martin graduated from high school there in 1957.

On Jan. 29, 1956, she was married to Robert Martin.  Mr. Martin was a race horse trainer, and his wife, who loved horses, was by his side helping however she could.  Through the years they had trained countless big stakes winners.  In 2009, she and her husband moved to Portales to make their home.  She enjoyed bowling and was an avid rock collector.

She is survived by Robert, her husband of nearly 67 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Kelly Martin of Hayfork, CA and Robert Paul and Jeanalynn Martin of Des Moines, NM; a daughter, Janet Lynn Martin of Morgan Hill, CA; six grandchildren, Sierra Martin, Rhodi Lynn Lindsey, Shane Schvanveldt, Chanel Hayworth, Shalay Hietala and Ryan Martin; five great-grandchildren, Raelynn, Bristol and Raspin Lindsey, Eelis Hietala and Jasper Hayworth; a brother, Bill Nolan of Oklahoma City, OK and a sister, Paula Turman of Discovery Bay, CA.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Paula Jane Martin.
