Maria Socorro (Barajas) Jimenez

Funeral services for Maria Jimenez, 79, of Portales will be held at 10:00 AM, Sat., Nov. 22, 2025 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Jahaziel Guerro officiating.  Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery with Gustavo Jimenez, Roberto Jimenez, Chris Phillips, Mikey Najera, Josiah Phillips and Bayrn McCarty serving as pallbearers.

Maria Socorro Jimenez was born May 13, 1946, in Jimenez, Mexico to the home of Amalia (Ruiz) and Emidio Barajas, and died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025 in Santa Fe, NM.  In Carmago, Mexico in 1977 she was married to Alejandro Jimenez.  In 1981, the came to the United States and settled in Portales.

Mrs. Jimenez was a devout Christian, and put God above everything else.  She was a member of the Iglesia Apostolica in Clovis.  Mrs. Jimenez loved reading her Bible and spending time in prayer.  Her family was very important to her, and spending time with them brought her great joy.  Among the dishes she prepared for them were tortillas, beans and rice, tamales and enchiladas.  Her flower garden was her pride, along with the beautiful table cloths and other items she either sewed or crocheted.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gustavo and Angelica Jimenez of Santa Fe, and Roberto Jimenez of Portales; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Elsa and Jorge Najera of Portales, Teresa and Bayrn McCarty of Moro Bay, CA, and Imelda Jowers and Rosa and Christopher Phillips of Portales; 15 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren; a a sister, Asuncion Jimenez of Mexico.  She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Ararcely Jimenez and by her husband, Alejandro who died Nov. 30, 2018.
