Maria Guadalupe (Olide) Olide de Gomez

The Rosary for Maria "Guadalupe" Olide de Gomez, 73, formerly of Portales, will be recited at 9:00 AM, Wed., Sept. 1, 2021 at St. Helen Catholic Church.  The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, by Fr. Francisco Carbajal.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Pedro Baca, Julian Gomez, Jr. Jesus Gomez, Lupe Gomez, Jose Olide and Luis Olide serving as pallbearers.

Maria Guadalupe Gomez was born Dec. 12, 1947 in Las Avispas, Mexico to the home of Maria Trinidad Cruz-Gutierrez and Ezequiel Olide-Maldanado, and died early on the morning of Aug. 25, 2021 at her home in Erie, CO.  On Sept. 2, 1973, in Piedras Negras, Mexico she was married to Julian Gomez.  She made her home in Portales until 2016 when she suffered a stroke.  At that time she went to live with her son and daughter-in-law in UT.  In May of 2020 they moved to Erie, CO where she was living at the present time.

Mrs. Gomez was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.  She was an accomplished homemaker, and enjoyed cooking and baking as well as gardening and raising flowers.  For relaxation she created beautiful crocheted items as well as sewing.  For the past 21 years, she has enjoyed the companionship of Pedro Baca, and together they raised various farm animals at the edge of Portales.

She is survived by her companion, Pedro Baca of Erie, CO; three sons, Julian Gomez, Jr. and his wife, Raylene of Erie, CO, Jesus Gomez and his companion, Nakita Hildebrand of Magna, UT and Lupe Gomez and his companion, Katy Sauz also of Magna, UT; eight grandchildren, Nikolai, Demitrious, Aurelia, Ezequiel, Yazmyn, Carol, Jacqueline and Max; two brothers, Jose Olide and Luis Olide both of Dallas, TX and a sister, Vicenta Olide of Zapotlanejo, Mexico.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Enrique Olide and Chuy Olide, as well as by her husband, Julian Gomez who died Dec. 12, 1993.
