Marie Ascension (Montano) Gutierrez

The Mass of the Resurrection for Marie Gutierrez, 85, of Portales will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 30, 2021, at St. Helen Catholic Church with Fr. Francisco Carbajal officiating. A rosary will be recited prior to mass at 9:00 A.M. at St. Helen Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Rodney Gutierrez, Adrian Gutierrez, Jonathan Gutierrez, Briana Gutierrez, Tyann Gutierrez and Jordan Gutierrez serving as pallbearers.  All of her other grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Marie (Montano) Gutierrez was born on October 5, 1936, in El Cerrito, New Mexico to the home of Cesaria (Armijo) and Jose Tomas Montano, and died December 25, 2021, in Portales.  She came to Portales in 1945 and married Jose Gutierrez on July 4, 1958, in Portales. They raised their family and made Portales their home.  She loved sewing, crocheting and cooking.  She was an excellent cook.  She was an active member of St. Helen Catholic Church.  Marie was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.

Marie is survived by her husband, Jose M. Gutierrez; three sons, Leroy Gutierrez and companion Erica, Herman Gutierrez and wife Elsa and Ray Gutierrez and wife Veronica; her grandchildren, Jonathan , Angelica, Rodney, Adrian, Briana, Nicole and Destiny; her great grandchildren, Jordan, Garret, Tyann, Julian, and Kaiden, and her great-great grandchildren, Alonso, Zul, Masayla, Evelyn, Rodney, Jr., Audrina and Kasey. Also her sisters, Alice Manzanares, Bertha Martinez, and Connie Larranaga, and her brother, Robert Montano and wife, Olivia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Yolanda Lamer and sons, Leroy Gutierrez, Jr. and Anthony Gutierrez and a brother Eddie Montano.
